EPDs
Environmental Product Declarations

Consistent with its leadership in the delivery of energy-efficient and sustainable building insulation solutions, the polyiso industry has published two third-party verified, ISO-compliant Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for roof and wall insulation products manufactured by PIMA members across North America. An EPD is an internationally recognized and standardized tool that reports the environmental impacts of products.

The industry-wide EPDs demonstrate that the energy-savings potential of polyiso roof and wall insulation over a typical 60-year building life span can equal up to 47 times the initial energy required to produce, transport, install, maintain, and eventually remove and dispose of the insulation. Additionally, the EPDs document that polyiso insulation offers high unit R-value per inch, recycled content, and other positive attributes that are consistent with the industry’s commitment to sustainable construction.

EPD Fact Sheet

This fact sheet provides an overview of the information included in the polyiso industry’s EPD reports for roof and wall insulation. The resource summarizes the process used to develop the EPDs as well as key facts about the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso products.

Polyiso Roof EPD

This EPD report documents the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso roof insulation board manufactured to meet the ASTM C1289 product standard. The report is applicable to ASTM C1289-13, Type II, Class 1 (glass reinforced fiber faced) products manufactured by the listed PIMA members. The EPD contains information on a wide range of polyiso performance advantages, including a high net return on embodied energy (saving between 9 and 44 times the initial embodied energy) and zero ozone depletion.

Polyiso Wall EPD

This EPD report documents the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso wall insulation board manufactured for commercial and residential construction. The report is applicable to ASTM C1289-13, Type I, Class 1 (foil faced) products manufactured by the listed PIMA members. The EPD contains information on a wide range of polyiso performance advantages, including a high net return on embodied energy (saving between 20 and 47 times the initial embodied energy) and excellent fire performance.
